A late start after a sleep in. Mum isn't well with bronchitis and a horrible cough.
But we wanted to see the louvre. Got a taxi there and was blown away with how huge it is from the outside. We found the section with the Mona Lisa and the Denon room (not the Nelson room). Took a while to find the Mona Lisa and it was bigger than I thought and covered in a glass wall, the only one that was. Was really beautiful. The artwork hanging in the gallery is quite gruesome and very religious. Wasn't really expecting that.
The denon room (apollo room) was king Louis room and then he set up Versaille instead. Was totally opulent even saw the crown jewels. On the way out we saw the Venus Di Milo statue and on the main staircase on the way in was an incredible statue of a winged woman with no head. Was stunning, my favorite piece in the louvre. Bought a mini copy for myself and a Eiffel tower watch. the statue room Was amazing too, especially the three ladies of grace.
Found more Gorgeous gift shops. Mum got a beautiful lithophane of all the monuments of Paris.
Got a taxi to sacre coeur and wandered the streets of Montmartre. Very arty area, so cute. Lots of vintage stores. Had coffee and lunch and bought some more souvenirs.
Getting a taxi back was a challenge but finally flagged a taxi to get back to our hotel. Went past moulin rouge, quick photo stop then up the street to the arc to triomophe. Was hilarious watching him try to get thru about six lanes of traffic with no lines and no indicators, just nudge your way in and across to where you want to go. Was so funny.
Then past the Eiffel tower thru another crazy roundabout and got back to the hotel having a really good laugh with the driver.
Another great day in Paris.
Just when I thought we were finished mum suggests we go back to Eiffel tower for one final time. Took about 1.5hrs to get tickets. Started at 8:00pm so we were on the tower by 9:30 to see all the city lights. Went straight to the summit and was awestruck at how much we've seen and done in the last 2.5 weeks. Had to celebrate with a glass of champagne €10 each was totally worth it!
Met a nice Aussie family and chatted to then but missed our stop at level 1. Oh well, it's been amazing. One final chic banana crepe with ice cream and final walk back to hotel and our trip is complete
