Feeling rested and relaxed - and sporting new tans - we left Santorini in a more civilized fashion this time and caught a flight back to Athens. With only one night in Athens before flying onto Milan we stayed in a different area near the archaeological museum and can really only describe it as junkyville. It was horrible, so completely different to the Plaka - every park we saw had wasted druggies lying around the place and each street corner had riot police standing on it. To anyone thinking of going to Athens, stay in the Plaka. However we didn't have much time and the next day saw the museum and got out of there.
We arrived into Milan at around 5.30pm and by the time we found and caught the 2 buses needed to get to our hotel it was close to 8pm so no time to look around - however we did manage to have the best pizza we'd had in italy! The next morning with only about 4 hours to spare before we had to catch our train to Zurich and then our flight to Hong Kong, we managed to cram in pretty much all the sights of Milan city - albeit from the outside. However we did get lucky when we arrived at the site where Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper is housed and managed to get tickets to see it due to cancellations after being told that tickets were booked out weeks in advance! It was really stunning, we didn't realise how large it was as it is painted on the side of a church wall, and as it is open to the air around it you have to go through two separate rooms which close off and stop the outside air getting in.
Once leaving Milan we had a 4.5 hour train trip back to Zurich and then say goodbye to Europe and head for Hong Kong!
