so we arrived in Airlie Beach after Cairns to go sailing in the Whitsunday Islands. I was super excited as every picture i had seen looked like pure paradise...as we arrived, we were informed our hostel was known for bedbugs and just being dirty in general...the first room had ants all over and hair growing on the floor...when i complained, i came back to find a can of ant killer on the counter...self-efficiency is a must here i guess....claire and i booked onto the same boat, the waltzing matilda...a nice sailboat that hosted 14 but arrived to 7 total plus 2 crewmembers...3 frenchies, 2 germans, a pom (claire) and a yank (me). first day we had beautiful weather and laid out on the deck and snorkelled some...went to bed that night with the boat rocking intensely to the point it woke us up...woke up the next morning to torrential downpours which lasted that day and the next...arrived to whitehaven beach, the fifth most beautiful beach in the world and it was raining!!! still very nice but i would have loved some sunshine...that where is where the division of the nationalities on the boat arose...the others could not hack the weather and wanted to go home early...not so much said claire and i, we paid for a 3 day/2 night trip and thats what we were going to get! it did not help that i had a massive crush on the skipper...ant from NZ...basically just read, played cards, listened to music and relaxed....def had some good laughs with claire and ant...never been seasick before but the second day was a little rough and i had to sleep it off!
