Fraser Island. I had heard so many good things about this adventure mecca before we arrived. I chose to a guided tour in fear that i might get stuck yet again with a group that did not speak english or a group that had been travelling together for an extended period of time...and i wanted to see as much as possible without having to sacrifice some sights for a random group of campers driving themselves around the island...we got all meals provided and a roof over our heads, not a tent! the tour guide we got was very informative but one of the weirdest people i have ever encountered...he would just go off on tangents about nothing for extended periods of time...and then start hysterically laughing! fraser island has some of the most amazing scenery i have ever seen...the entire island is a natural phenomenon as it is entirely made of sand...all of the road are made of sand and you have to navigate the island by a four wheel drive vehicle...my favorite place was lake mckenzie and lake birrabeen...frshwater lakes that are crystal clear blue like the caribbean. there is also the rainforest and emerald green lakes as well. i also liked the champagne pools (ocean pools surrounded by massive rocks where the waves crash over) until i got sideswiped off the rock and broke my toe! the top of the view from indian head was amazing, look down into the ocean and see thru the water to see sharks, turtles and stingrays. we got to see wild dingoes along the beach but also encountered some pretty hungry biting flies that had us constantly slapping ourselves to prevent anymore bites! was def one of my fave places as it was just very diverse in ecology...often wonder if a self drive tour would have been the way to go tho....maybe next time!!!
