Today was our last real day in Rome and we wanted to make the most of it! So, we got up bright and early, and caught the metro to "the Ruins" and the Colosseum.
After a walk around the famous Colosseum in the day ( we had only seen it at night) we then made our way over to the Ruins and went in! It was actually pretty cool! The ruins are from the " Ancient City" that was covered in dirt and dust for many many years, until Archaeologists started digging it up - Starting with only one temple, and discovering much more in the process. The ancient city is now the size of a small suburb and takes all day to get around everything.
We saw many tombs, temples, churches, marketplaces and everything! We saw the very fisrt shopping mall ( although it wasn't called that at the time!) and walked up to the hill where the rich people of the city lived, including the kings themselves. As we walked around we kept stumbling over fenced off sites, with people working in them. Obviously, they are still finding buried buildings today!
After all this wandering around we were hungry and stopped off at the most Brilliant Bakery for lunch. HUGE sandwichs things with layers of rocket, cheese and some weird kind of meat! It was the best Sandwich I have ever eaten! You know you have found a good place to eat of all the locals also decide to eat there! Thats exactly what this place was like!
After catching the metro back to the hostel it was getting a little late, so we had a little bit of a shop around and then headed back to the hostel to pack up our bags for the morning and go on the internet and stuff!
But don't worry, we weren't finished in rome yet!
We went out to dinner for one last, carb fueled dinner before heading out to yet another pub crawl!
It was almost as great as the first night! The first pub we went to was not a pub it at all, it was anight club! Underground, there were two dim rooms with strobe lights and extremely loub music. Sham it was only 9 pm at night and everyone had not had a drop to drink!
There was an open bar though - so it wasn't long before people started dancing. The floor got really slippery real quick due to spilt drinks which was even more funny because people were stacking it everywhere! Including franny!
Anyway after a while, our pub leader a little fat italian man probably in his sixties, took us to the next pub which was great. He was so funny because we was hitting on all the girls and giving us shots - but only if we kissed him on the cheek first! But he was funny!
The second bar was VERY cool, amazing cocktails and cool music! We met a huge group of swiss girls and guys who were on a school trip and they were so funny because they really could not speak english very well!
We got lost at this bar and the rest of the tour went on with out us! but we were cool enough to navigate our way to the next pub, and underground, brit inspired place. Our tour leader was Very happy we hadn't got too lost!
Anyway, this places was also pretty cool, but more crowded and crazy. While franny was being a good citizen and looking after a girl who had obviously drunk way too much, I made friends with all of these irish people, who really are the funniest humans alive! Later I found out they were tour guides from the pub crawl we had done two nights ago!
The night ended at about 230 and we walked back the hostel, excited for corfu island tomorrow!
