Watch out world the Barkers are coming!
Ok now is the time for the FRASER report.
We left early (and i mean up at 5am early!) on Monday morning, after going throught all our equipment including tents, cookers, bbq's, cutlery etc, and made for the port in a trail of 4 other Koala vans. After reversing this massive 4x4 onto the ferry (very nerve racking), We locked in the wheels, deflated the tyres a little and were ready to lead the pack to central station. After an uneventful drive every one pulled up at the area known as central station to do a nice little walk through the rainforest, and then shoot off to Lake Mackenzie, or so we thought. Rob, Polly, Joe and i had to go to the toilet and put some rubbish in the bins, so we were laggin behind a group of 50 or so excited backpackers. We started walking and talking, and got to a crossroads where you can head in to the rainforest or back to the carpark. We thought they must have gone into the rainforest, and started in that direction...2.2km later we realised that everyone had been lazy and gone straight back to the cars, we were in some place called Pile Valley, with no way of getting back but returning along the the same bloody track for 2.2km. When we returned tto the van we were met by some hot and sweaty, very annoyed group c members. After saying our apologies, we headed for Lake Mackenzie, which if you've seen the photos (or been there) you'll know is beautiful. we ended up stayinbg there till about 4pm then realised we only had about an hour and a half of sunlight with which to get to the beach and set up camp!!! everyone bailed to the car and Rob raced us to the beach and set up camp just before sunset. Oh we had to move the camp cos we realised we were in a road the first time (DOH)!!! Rob got cheffing whilst the rest of us started that horrible game, Ring of Fire! During this time someone went to the beach and shouted "DINGOES" and there were two dingos on the beach...Check that off the list. We had another group from Koalas near us and one of them came over and started telling us jokes (the other group were bored of them). Not such a bad thing until i tell you the guy was sooooooo Dutch, and you know i love that accent. So we carried on playing ROF, whilst he told his rubbish jokes, and then the rest of his group came over and the vibe got a little wierd. So Joe being the outspoken New Yoiker, said to all of them that the vibe was wierd and they need to leave. Unfortunately english politness came into play and no one backed him up (which we are truely sorry for), so all of group c went donw to the beach and obviously within minutes the rest of their group had followed us down there, cos we're so cool!?! eventually they got the message and went home and we returned to our castle for the night.
Next morning i woke up and found loads of stuff on the boonet of the car and as i moved it i found the crack in the windscreen. "Well (insert bad words) thats our (more bad words) bond gone who the (again) did that" were my now immortal wise words to wake everyone up with. (we all blamed Walter the dutch guy with the jokes cos last thing we heard him say was "why don't you all go kill yourselfs?" which is nioce.) To be honest the group took it really well and we did not let it spoil our trip in any way, in fact we became kind of infamous for having the only busted van! anyway we packed up and got moving we went up the beach towards lake Garowgera and Indian heads. We arrived at garowgera and it was quiet and nice but just didn't compared with Mackenzie, so we stayed a while and left for Indian heads, which turned out to be a massive highlight! It's at the top of Seventy five mile beach and it's above a breeding ground for tiger sharks. We sat up the top and watched for about an hour, we saw Loads of Tiger sharks, Eagle rays, Manta Rays, Turtles and some random feeding activity going on in the distance...Check. We then headed south down the beach again stopped off at the Maheno wreck, which was blown ashore in 1935, and used as a bombing target for training during WWII, then set off to set up camp again.
This time we found a wicked camping spot (off the road) and set up well before dark. We ate well that night with Farqua on the grill, and Rob and Papa Joe helping out. Rob supervising and Joe making his famous, "Papa Joes New Yoik Boigers" (Copyright by the way). Then funnily enough we started playing that game again! its an addiction. After Joe "winning" the game (as well as the two the previous night), i think he was named reigning FRASAaaaa champ! WE all got a bit restless and started playing manhunt (or hide and seek if thats what you wanna call it). after no one finding Farqua any of the times we played he was named champ. first time he was under the van, second time he was under, but not in, a tentand the third time he was on top of the van during the whole game (which lasted about an hour)!!
Last day on fraser brought even more glorious weather and a challenge to get up the beach before ten and get to Lake Wabby. We did it with some great navigational skills and a lot of patience, as the road to lake Wabby turned out to be one of the most bumpy thick sanded crap roads ever. We got there ran down the sand dune which enters into the lake, and then had to leave cos time was pressing. We got to the ferry terminal after some bacardi spillage and everyone dug into the spagetti we hadn't used. Got the ferry back, only had to pay $300 out of our $660 bond for the windscreen and then all ate mexican (which joe was praying for) and played pool. We said our goodbyes to Lord Farqua and Marica, which was a tearjerker, and went to a crap night club called morroccos. Next morngin we said good bye to #2 and Rob anmd Polly over Bacon sarnies and coffee. Then next day gave joe a lift to the airport, to make sure he left, and we were back to just us. Since Hervey bay we have been to Cania Gorge; middle of no where but nice scenery, Rockhampton; Muddy river, good steaks, wierdo's and Blacks beach in Mackay; redneck hick town! Now in airlie looking forward to our two nights three days on a katamaran.
well my fingers hurt so i'll leave you with a little puzzle for the photos (yes i know i got some wrong but they were very small!).
If you look at the photos there looks like there is something very very dodgy going on in one of the tents behind a pic...can you find it, answers via the message board please!
Love you all loads
