Here for 5 days, after a 17hour train journey - Becky didn't sleep because she thought we were being hi-jacked every time we stopped! The journey is meant to take 11hours - there is only one train that goes from Nairobi to Mombassa one day and returns the next. How it's late EVERY day is a mystery. One answer we were given was... Hakuna Matata!!
Loving the beach. We are staying in a cottage right on the beach, courtesy of Caroline and her contact Sheila, who runs the place. The sea is warm, the sand is pure white, and the beach is lined with Coconut trees. Every morning we can buy freshly picked fruit, and the morning's catch of the day (giant prawns, not nappies like Swansea Bay!) Done the usual pursuits, sunning ourselves, snorkelling, more sunning, eating, sunning and drinking, drinking...
George (who you will have read about from our stay with Sarah and Karen in Nairobi) told us to give a note to a chap called Francis "Fuz" Foster. Fuz was a crazy, but cool Old Boy... plying us with alcohol, taking us to his snooker night, telling us stories of my family and there experiences in Kenya, and waking us up one morning with a gunshot as he was trying to shoot a monkey out of a tree... Absolute nutter!
Went down to Diani beach - its gorgeous. We walked along the even softer sand from Jadini Beach Hotel (which James' family established) to a cool beach bar called Ali Barber's 40 Thieves... Best bar we have found!
In our last few days we met a lovely family called Potgeiter - Peter, Sandra, Sienna, Jeremy, Kyran and Marc - who really took us under their wing. They fed us cake and beer on their verandah, gave me (James) my first and only Kikoy, and more than generously drove us to their house (in Nyali, a suburb of Mombassa), let us use their pool, took us out for lunch, and dropped us off at the train station for our 17 hour trip back to Nairobi.
Off to Lake Nakuru now for our 3 day safari.
