Hi everyone. Thanks for your messages!
We left Katherine after mum and dad had another early morning swim in the hot spring and headed to Mataranka. We couldn't stay at Mataranka because that caravan park didn't take me and my kind, but this was a huge bonus. We booked into the caravan park at Bitter spring, just down the road, and didn't realise that the spring was about 200 metres away from the park! Dad said the spring was even better than Katherine. It is a natural hot stream running through the tropical bush of palms scrub and ferns. You enter the water from one end and the stream carries you about 150 metres to another set of stairs where you get out and walk back and do it again! It is completely natural except for the stairs. Everyone there had pool noodles and were floating along. The water was about 33 degrees at all times and crystal clear. There were lilies growing on the top of the water and the fern roots sit on the top near the edge which creates a kind of ledge. Mum and dad went back to camp and got their goggles and went snorkelling. Mum said it was kind of eerie because it was as clear as snorkelling in the ocean on a really good day but there was absolutely no marine life at all! The fern roots created a dark cave on either side of the stream so the whole time they were swimming they expected a croc to stick its head out! Paranoid I recon!
After swimming at Bitter Springs Mataranka Thermal springs was a big disappointment! very overcrowed and commercialised
