We are currently in Santa Cruz, California an hour north of Monterey. We have slowly made our way up Hwy 1 hugging the coast from Los Angeles. In Santa Barbara, Kim had a little run in with a tree stump while reversing the RV. It was at very slow speed but given the RV's fiberglass construction did more damage than we'd hoped. We decided to leave our "home" in Ventura while it undergoes repair (luckily we have insurance - a slow moving insurance company, but insurance nonetheless), which is estimated to take a couple of weeks. With time not on our side we packed up our car and headed up Hwy 1. It is the such an amazingly beautiful region, with the climate and scenery changing around every turn. We made our way from Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo and then on to the Monterey area where we spent a 4 days exploring. It has been frustrating not having the RV, but we are thankful we can keep moving. Oliver will drive back down to pick it up when it's ready - which hopefully won't be too long! We head off to San Francisco tomorrow where we'll stay for the next few weeks.

jentri Chancey this is soooooo something I would do! :) hope you get it fixed SOON! :)
Heather M I lived in Santa Barbara for several years... I do miss the weather. If you are still in SF and you have a chance, check out Alcatraz. I went around '99, and it was really interesting! I probably would have smashed the RV to bits by now. I'm impressed how well you guys are doing! I hope it's back up and running soon. :)
Sharon Great photos in CA! I wish we could've headed up there when we were on the West Coast, looks like we missed some beautiful country!
