We were expecting a cool little beach town when we arrived in Huanchaco but were surprised to find it was very similar to a lot of the coastal towns along the western Peruvian coast.
It was quite run down in parts and our hostel was slightly less comfortable than expected to say the least! We made the most of the visit though. Went on a trip to some pre Inca ruins with a really nice local guide. Crazy to see how the different cultures built their communities in completely different parts of the country, this time being in the desert compared to the jungles and mountains of Machu Picchu!
We had a stroll along the sea front that night and found a much better part of town luckily! Decent food and the first night out for a drink in a while so made up for the shaky start!!
One more area to place visit before hitting Mancora for Christmas. Also the last time we'll be briefly heading into the mountain region again. A few last treks to see off an active December in Peru!
