Yesterday marked the start of our Gibb River Rd adventure. We packed up camp from Kununurra and headed along the hwy to the start of the Gibb. The road initially alternated between bitumen and gravel and was a little bumpy but not too bad. We turned off towards El Questro Station which is a cattle station that provides luxury accommodation and people can fly in by helicopter. Some of the movie Australia was filmed there. We stopped along the way at Zebedee Springs which was like something out of a movie. A small walk amongst foliage and streams took us to gently cascading waterfalls with many tiered rock pools where we could swim/sit in the thermal water it was like paradise. After a long soak and an explore we continued on to El Questro to have a look and got a cold drink at the cafe before heading back to the Gibb River Rd. We drove on to Home Valley Station which was our camp spot for the night, a cattle farm with cabins and a great camping area with semi outdoor showers. After setting up in the scorching heat we jumped in the swimming pool before grabbing some lunch and then back in the pool for some relaxation. Just before sunset we took a couple of cars to a spot on the edge of the river where we could watch the Cockburn Ranges slowly change colour as the sun went down, it was breathtaking. We hung out riverside for a while then drove back to camp and got ready for dinner. We ate dinner in Dusty's bar which was an open air restaurant with live acoustic music and a beautiful setting. Jamie ate the local Home Valley eye fillet and I had local barramundi from the Pentecost River, both were quite delicious. After dinner the boys decided to try their luck fishing while us girls took the ute and collected some firewood and built a roaring fire. We sat around the fire for a while feeling sleepy then crashed.
We got up pretty early this morning as the hot sun was beating down on the tent and the birds were chirping so we packed up and hit the road. The road got quite bumpy today with rolling flood ways and big dust clouds which made the journey a bit slow going. Camden got a blowout about halfway to our destination and a few bits fell of various cars but eventually we made it here to Mt Elizabeth station where we again set up in scorching heat. Once set up we drove down a super rocky bumpy track to a rivers spot with a big sandy bank and refreshing water. We hung out for a while then collected firewood and headed back to camp. We caught up with Ross and Emma so now our group is complete. We cooked a BBQ dinner on the hot fire and all caught up before going to bed.
