Today we got up quite early and set off to do the scenic drive to Hana. We put the top down straight away, but had to put the heater on as the sun hadn't started shining yet. We stopped for a quick coffee in Pa'ia and then motored to the start of the scenic part of the hwy. We started playing the cd that gives a guided tour of all the sites along the way and some history about the islands and area. The guy on the CDs name was Craig and he was great at explaining everything we were seeing such as little villages, roadside waterfalls and fruit stands. We stopped to pick up some freshly baked banana bread and some coconut candy. We pulled over to see some beach coves and waterfalls. We drove to a black sand beach which was really beautiful, I thought black sand would make the beach look dirty but it was tiny shiny black granules and it contrasted amazingly with the bright blue water and white waves. On the black sand beach we found a lava tube cave that we could duck and walk into and it went all the way through to the ocean. We drove on until we reached the car park of ole gulch where we took a four mile hike up to the most amazing waterfalls. The place is locally called seven sacred pools as there are many waterfalls flowing into pools and it continues all the way down the mountainside. About three quarters of the way up we entered a bamboo forest with massively tall dense bamboo that blew in the wind and made a crazy banging sound as the trunks bashed against each other. At the top of the trail we found three incredibly high waterfalls and a huge flat rock wall which was stunning. It started raining up at the falls so we headed back down the hill where it was still nice and sunny. We headed back towards Pa'ia, stopping at a roadside taco stand on the way. We also had a pineapple sorbet which was frozen into a scooped out half a pineapple, yummo! We kept driving on until we reached Pa'ia where we had a little wander around before heading back to Kihei. I got to have a drive of the mustang which was fun although a little weird driving on the other side of the road. When we got back to the hotel we jumped in the pool to clean off a bit then had showers and headed out for dinner. After dinner we were pretty tired after lots of walking so we called it a night.
