Overnighted in Grinnell, Iowa Home of the first football game held west of the Mississippi and the countries first political science department. That's what they told me. Got tired of the interstate so got off on a parallel country road and stumbled into Walnut Iowa and it's just as charming as it sounds. 18 antique stores. A lady told me that the whole area maintains the town as it is to preserve some of traditional Iowa. I will setup an album for this stop when I can but trust me when I say that the bekery was right out of the 30's and I couldn't resist having a peach turnover and a pecan cinnammon roll (you would think they'd have walnuts on it) The people were super friendly and when I asked if there was a tight senate or house race they said they weren't sure. Huh? Ok. This was the first state where I felt like the topography, flora and fauna (mostly sleeping by the side of the road-I don't know why they would do that) were changing from what I am used to.
