We spent a couple of hours at the Kalgoorlie Museum today, which has a number of impressive historical displays about the hardships of life on the goldfields, including an original miner's cottage, the tiny British Arm's Hotel, entrepreneur Claude de Bernale's opulent offices and boardroom and WA's largest collection of gold nuggets and bars housed underground in the vault. We had a guided tour including up the lift to the top of the Ivanhoe Headframe (originally from the Big Bell Mine in Cue), which stands 39 metres high and dominates the entrance to the museum.
We then went to the nearby twin town of Boulder to have a look around and we ate lunch at a local bakery before heading to a laundry to do our washing and the supermarket to stock up before our next adventure east on the Nullarbor.
Late afternoon we finally headed out of town (24 hour stay only) and camped for the night at the nearby Lake Sampson.
BBQ'd burgers and salad for dinner before heading inside to watch a movie on TV thanks to our satellite dish.
Night night xx
