Took our time packing up this morning, just enjoying the beachside location. We headed first towards the tip of the small peninsula south of Whyalla to Port Bonython, site of a deep water port and 2.4km long wharf leased by the SA government to Santos, used for exporting hydrocarbon products. What a night we had last night! We slept on a cliff at the edge of a huge sand dune that was totally exposed to the elements. And boy, did we feel those 'elements'. The wind howled and screeched all night, rattling and shaking the caravan, especially our canvas bed ends. It felt like we were going to be lifted in the air, like the house in The Wizard of Oz. First day we left our campsite early - for us - at 9am! We decided to eat breakfast in the nearby town of Hawker, which made the pack up quicker. We sat in the park in Hawker for a while enjoying free wifi and dawdling over breakfast. Today we drove through the central Flinders Ranges National Park - despite the fact we have a dog and shouldn't enter. It seems to us that South Australia is quite money hungry in terms of its national parks as you have to pay to enter each one, and then if you are camping you pay an extra fee.
