Today we explored the Copper Coast, in the northern part of the Yorke Peninsula. The area is known for its rich history of copper mining in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We visited Moonta, a lively city filled with tourists enjoying the local pubs, tourist sites and shops. We spent the morning looking around at the Port Julia Easter Fair, which took place at the oval where we are camped. The local Progress Association, which looks after this camping spot, puts on this fair for campers and locals. There were the usual fresh fruit and veg stalls, trash and treasure (more trash than treasure!), coffee van, wheel of fortune with bottles of wine as prizes, book stalls, hoop throwing, home made cakes for sale and beetle racing. Today Gadi drove to the south west tip of the Yorke Peninsula to a remote area called Innes National Park. Obviously being a national park we can't take Cadbury there and Gadi was keen to do some walking. The park is known for its stunning cliffs and beaches, and is popular with people wanting to bush walk, camp, surf and scuba dive. So today we explored more of the Yorke Peninsula, starting with the tiny seaside town of Wool Bay where we had a look at the old lime kiln ruin. We then drove to Port Giles, which is not a town but actually the newest port on the Yorke Peninsula with a long jetty equipped for bulk handling of grain, the main industry on this peninsula. After the big adventure last night, today was a day of rest and recovery. We really didn't do much other than read, sort through stuff and of course Mr Fix It enjoyed finding things around our camp to fix!
