The first beer stop...

Horror of horrors! Today we went to check out 'backpacker mekka' Kao San road to see what all the fuss is about and if we maybe should spend a few nights there to get to know Bangkok from another perspective (our Hotel Atlanta is situated in a rather local neighbourhood that is not exactly bursti ng with culture). Three words: Stay.Far.Away! What we found was a tourist ghetto that might just as well have been on Mallorca, with Western food and everything to cove...

Getting back and forth in Bangkok can be a bit of a challenge... cabs are dirt cheap, but the constant traffic jam can make for 1-hour cab rides. Tuk-tuk are overpriced, motorbike taxis kinda dangerous, and the Skytrain. - while quick and efficient - does not reach all of the old neighbourhoods yet... Even though this picture doesn't show it properly, the view was absolutely breathtaking when Morten took me to a rooftop restaurant in a skyskraper for a surprise dinner date ... well planned, Mister! When I could finally take my eyes off the skyline and focus on the food, that turned out to be delicious as well - plus: First glass (or should I say bottle?) of wine in 6 weeks. Nothing says balmy summer night as a cold French Rosé :)

No visit to Bangkok is complete without the ultimate entertainment (no, not what you think!): Thai Boxing! A combat sport in which pretty much anything goes... also bleeding stupid 'farangs' like us for 1000 baht and more per ticket. Luckily Morten found the one place where you can witness some proper fights for free once a week - yay!
