Some impressions from the Atlanta, our fantastic shabby-chic vintage hotel in Bangkok - not renovated since the 50s :) Here is the glorious lobby, where one actually has wi-fi (one of the few modern amenities).

The Nana Plaza, one of Bangkoks smaller red light districts... Curiously boring. We were having a beer while the working girls and their clients were filing in and out of the love hotel behind us and the ladies at 'Spankies' across the square flicked their whips... It's exactly as you would imagine it - just a lot less interesting.

After 5 weeks of Indonesia (it was great, but we really needed a change of scenery) we are now finally residing at the glorious Hotel Atlanta in Bangkok, which is like time travel right back to the 50s... more images to follow! Bangkok, baby! I have a feeling we could get stuck here for a while ;)

One for the preggy ladies (yes, my dear dear friends who are expecting - we are thinking of you a lot!): Apparently you have love in your tummy! How fitting :)

After arriving by night train in Jakarta (a big, polluted moloch of a city with some 10000 inhabitants) we didn't plan or expect much... but the old dutch-colonial Café Batavia (which served me my first martini in 6 weeks!) was definitely a highlight, simply beautiful with teak floors, hundreds of old black and white photographs, jazz from the speakers - and of course prices to match! We continued our walking tour a bit more low key, getting lost in the living ...
