Heading for Rockhampton today en route for Bundaberg.
Before leaving the hotel the receptionist suggested we went to Cape Hillsborough National Park where we may see Wallabies in the wild on the beach and surrounding areas.
In the car park at the start of the short walk down to the beach was a large sign advising of crocodile sighting within the last few days. Quick look on the beach while keeping an eye open for the Croc. Didn't see it thankfully.
Just at the start of a walk a wallaby was sitting right next to the foot path. Not only a wallaby but one with a baby in it's pouch. It's a tough life for baby wallabies; as soon as mother bends to eat the joey's face is in the mud. Further on we saw a second one sitting by the path taking in the scenery. Cool.
Back on the road I noticed the car in front move to avoid something in the road -- a large reptile over a metre and a half long. Later identified as a Goanna, a large monitor lizard.
On to Rockhampton and check into a motel; OK but reminded us too much of the Bates Motel.
Once settled in off into Rockhampton to see what's happening - not much, and to see if there is anywhere for dinner. One or two nice 1800's buildings otherwise not much and no where to eat, so dinner was a meal deal from Hungary Jacks (Australia's answer to Mc Donald's) The one claim to fame for Rockhampton is that it is the home town of Rod Laver the tennis player.
Another day in paradise.
