Byron Bay to Nambucca Heads
Before leaving Byron Bay we took an opportunity to see the lighthouse at Byron Point, Australia's most eastern point. The view from the headland in the sun was superb.
Leaving there, we headed down the coast road for Ballina taking in views of the amazing beaches. At Ballina the Pacific Highway turned inland to Grafton. Just outside of Ballina we had to take a necessary photo of The Big Prawn , one of Australia's roadside icons; a huge twenty foot high model of a prawn.
The next town en route is Coffs Harbour. It was interesting with the obligatory amazing long sandy beach and The Big Banana, another roadside icon, no photo this time.
The weather became overcast again so off to Nambucca Heads where we planned to stay overnight. By the time we arrived it was raining so we looked at the views from the headland in the rain. No beach time today which we had hoped for, nor kayaking on the river courtesy of the hotel, but great waves with the usual surfers out, and a super apartment with wonderful views of the ocean.
