Last night we had a lovely dinner at Aubergine. Frans picked us up at the campground and we drove to Dee Why, a part of Sydney, which is also in the Northern Beaches region. It was very busy there and loud so eventually we moved towards the street. The food was delicious and after a couple of hours Carlos and his mom joined us for some desert and wine.
Today we first had a swim at the rock pool at half past seven. The clock had moved an hour due to the end of summer time / daylight saving so we could sleep an hour longer, which was nice.
Frans came to get us at quarter past nine and we headed off to the Blue Mountains.
However, first we stopped at Church Point to have breakfast. It was raining, so that was a bit disappointing but the food was delicious again.
We drove further on a very nice road with lots of trees to get to the highway and by the time we arrived at Katoomba (in the Blue Mountains), it had stopped raining.
We first went to a lookout to see the Three Sisters. Lisanne went down to another lookout but it was very narrow and very crowded. The view though was spectacular. There was also a souvenir shop, so Lisanne bought a lot of things.
Then we went to Scenic World, an old Katoomba coal mine (it closed in 1930), which was now used as a tourist attraction. There are several walking paths and a railway and cable-car. Mirne and Craig decided to stay up and take the railway, because of their bad knees, but Lisanne and Frans took the Furber Stairs (900 steps) down a narrow path that meanders beside the rocks, through the rainforest. Stunning views on the mountains and the Katoomba waterfall (244m high) which you meanwhile visit and hear all the time. Really spectacular and awesome to experience. We went back up via the scenic railway, ate something, bought another souvenir and headed back to the city at about five o'clock.
On the way back to the campground, we picked up Carlos from the city and drove over the Harbour Bridge. We got at the campground at half past seven.
Craig brought Frans and Carlos back home, after they had admired Harvey. Mirne and Lisanne had some wine and then we went to bed early after a long, but very beautiful (and after all dry) day. Today in the mountains it was only 16 degrees.
