Hey! So we're back, again. The good thing about not posting stuff is that once you do, you have a lot to write!
Sooo, where should I start?
Well, after leaving our hostel at Hindley Street we got in touch with a guy called Chris through Couchsurfing. We asked him if we could stay at his place for a night or two and he replied (luckily enough) that we could "just enter through the back door". So we arrived at Chris' place and he showed up several hours later. It turned out that he had just returned from a businesstrip in Arvika in Sweden. We were supposed to leave his place on the friday but as it turned out we stayed a little bit longer. Chris went to an engagement party in his hometown and went off over the weekend, he said we could stay if we wanted so we did.
That sunday we were invited over to Kira's house to meet her parents. And since they are Macedonian some of her relatives showed up at the barbeque as well. It was a very nice night, and it was the first BBQ since Blue Mountains for Kajsa and I so we basically stuffed ourselves.
The day after was an exciting day for us because we were going to go to Kangaroo Island! Finally we would get a glimpse of some real, wild, Australian animals! We went on a bustour with approximately 12 people, with Kajsa and I as the youngest. We saw so many cool and cute animals!; Kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, seals, pelicans, penguins and possums. Aaand the busdriver taught us (to our great disappointment) that the bird with the funny crying-child sound is in fact a raven.... Seriously?! Ravens doesn't sound like that! Not in Sweden anyway. We didn't believe it until we heard (and saw) it with our own eyes. I guess all animals are different over here. Because, well, not even the magpies look the same.
After our adventure we headed back to Adelaide and Kira's house (!) since Kira's dad said he could set us up with a job at a greek restaurant. And then they offered us to stay with them since their house is so close by. We lived with Kiras' family for 1 week and it was great! They really spoiled us!
Our whole stay in Adelaide wouldn't have been the same without Kira and Yianni (and you guys know that you are welcome to Stockholm or Jönköping anytime you want <3)
We're so thankful for everything you've done for us! And that you made us fall in love with your cozy town as well.
But then, we had to say goodbye to Adelaide. A way too underrated town in my opinion. Many backpackers don't go here because "there's nothing to do". Well, we just ended up there by coincidence, but when you find the places to go visit, there's plenty to do! Lots of cozy dessert places, Central Market with their $1 pineapples(!) and the Fringe festival. They had all shops that the other big Aussie cities has to offer and a lot of "dodgy" stores. And many nice parks! And of course a beautiful beach. We went to Semaphore, it's a very quite part of town and with a very beautiful beach. (And a swedish café!)
Anyhow, it was a difficult goodbye. But our trip had to go on, so we went down to Melbourne through the Great Ocean Road. My favourite stop was definitely the Twelve Apostles. It was enchanting in the afternoon light. The nights we spent in the tent I'd rather like to forget though, since we basically slept right on the ground. Although this was te first time Kajsa used the pillowcase her mom gave her, so thank you Kajsas mom! However, after two nights in the tent we arrived safe and sound in youthly Melbourne!
We spent a week there but I don't know where the days went. We saw Melbourne, met Sinja who we first met in Mildura at our hostel and then we met up with Rodrigo and Paulina, (also friends from Mildura) at a festival, we celebrated Kajsa's birthday two days in a row; first with a yummie birthday dinner and then with a night out, we met more germans and french people but, for the first time on our trip, we met some swedes! We went to St Kilda twice and came there too late to swim or sunbathe twice so instead we went to our new favourite restaurant; Lentil as Anything and ate delicious vegetarian dinner for almost nothing, and then we had to leave for Brisbane!
And well, here we are, on our last day in this city. I really like Brisbane, its a nice city, with a lot of highstory buildings and a beautiful walk along the floodbank.
Today we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sancturary and got to pet Kangaroos!!! And of course, see Koalas, but also all other typical Australian animals. It was awesome!
We live at the cheapest accomodation we paid for during this trip right now and you can tell, since there are no utensils in the kitchen, the washingmachines are broken and now all three toilets in the girls' bathroom are out of order as well... Well I'm pretty glad we're leaving tomorrow.
Leaving for the greatest and most intense adventure on my trip! Hello surf camp, Byron Bay, Noosa, Rainbow Beach, Fraser Island and the Whitsundays! :D
Catch you later!
Xoxo, Filippa (Flipper) & Kajsa (Kaiser)
