"Kajsa, an advice, never burn your bum before going on a 34 hour planeride"
Airlie Beach, Queensland
Happy Easter everybody! Wow, we've been busy the last two weeks! We've traveled up and down and are pretty exhausted at the moment, but everything we've done has been absolutely incredible. We started on St. Patrick's day, going on the bus to a place called Spot X, where they have a very popular surf camp. Before we arrived we'd only heard about it at the travel agency, but after we left it seems like everyone has been there at one point or another. Surfing was not easy, but yes, we both did it! After two lessons our muscles were aching like never before during our entire time in Australia, but you do feel pretty great when you manage to catch a wave. We were at camp for two days, then we left for Byron Bay. As one of the most hyped up places for backpackers in Australia, we didn't really know what to expect, but yes, we had a great time. We met people from camp, had two great nights out, and walked in the pouring rain to the lighthouse, which is located right by the easternmost point of mainland Australia. During this walk we talked to the guy from the hostel who led the way, and ended up hanging out with him and his friends on a bar called Cheeky Monkeys that night. We had lots of fun until the power went out... But we moved on so it was all good really. Next on our list was Noosa! Where it was raining, again. We met a crazy girl from southern Sweden who we hung out with that night, and the next morning when the three of us went for a beach walk. It was beautiful but exhausting, since we were smart enough to not bring food, even though the walk was three hours. We survived though, and made it to the bus that took us to our next stop. Rainbow beach! It was a beautiful beach, but a boring town. We stayed there as part of our package to Fraser Island, the island itself being one of our favorite stops so far. We were on a self drive tour on the world's biggest sand island. The island is absolutely beautiful and we were lucky enough to end up in a great group of people. We lived on a big camp ground as a big happy but chaotic family, and we got to visit some amazing places. As we write this, we are just back in Airlie Beach after sailing the Whitsunday Island for two days. It was great fun and insanely beautiful. We were 28 people plus the crew of three on the boat, the weather was perfect and life in general was just amazing. We went snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, visited Whitehaven beach, hung out with the people on the boat and just laid around on deck enjoying the weather. We are pretty happy at the moment, but it does feel weird to be done since everything went by so fast. It has truely been an amazing adventure and the last couple of days I (Filippa) have felt that I'm not done travelling this awsome, amazingly beautiful country at all. But, I am going home, and that is soon. In only four DAYS I will be sitting at home in my room again. In Sweden. Wanting to go back and redo everything again. I will miss Kajsa and Australia so much. We've been living with each other for two and a half months now and it's going to be so weird being so far away from her. But at least we have some awesome stories to tell and I hope her last two months will be just as amazing as our first ones. So, goodbye Australia: I will definitely miss you and I will definitely come back! Cheers mate!
