JJ's Big Adventure
So far all I can say is that for me is that it is not about the walk. It´s all about the people. The Camino has your typical late 20´s to early 30´s budget travelers. All of whom are good folks that I have enjoyed chatting and drinking (way too much) with, but for me it is the "non-traditional traveler or hiker" that makes this special.
It´s the British guy that has probably never hiked a day in his life, but is doing so now because his wife-girlfriend said that she was going (30 days) with or without him. It is the four middle aged Spaniard men who are always the first ones out the door, but also always the last ones to the next destination. They are pure Spanish men who never ever stop talking. Consequently, they never do ANYTHING quickly. It´s the six French women all of whom are in their 60´s who wake up happy and talking to one another, hike talking the whole time, prepare a HUGE French meal every night while talking the whole time of course, and finally go to bed doing the same darn thing. It´s stereotypical German guy with a heart of gold, but every one of his words and actions are not only measured, but also alway sensible and practical. In other words, flying by the seat of his pants (like me) is never, ever a consideration. It´s the two French ladies who left France 12-15 years ago to teach French in England. Both of whom love life and never stop laughing, but one is still pure France and the other serves Yorkshire pudding and roast on Sundays. At this point you should get the picture and besides, I have already written so many run-on sentences that Lucy is no longer proud of my writing abilities.
I am about six days into the walk with another 22 or 24 more to go. Despite spending most of my free time sitting outside drinking beer, wine, and on one really fun night, tequila; I always manage to be among the first people to the next destination (I am walking fast for some reason or another) and I have managed to see the inside of a Church or two. Life is good.
Take care folks,
Jason
