Day Sixty Nine - March 15 (March 14 was a sea day)
After 11 straight port days, yesterday was a sea day and today we are in Port Antonio on the northeast side of Jamaica. It's population is roughly 12,000 inhabitants with 2.8 million living on the entire island. Port Antonio is 97 kilometers from the capital of Kingston. The famous places such as Ocho Rios, Negril and Montego Bay are 3 to 4 hours away.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean after Cuba and Hispaniola. Sailing through a narrow passway you could tell that this area receives a lot of rainfall and is considered the greenest parish in the country.
Guests could not go ashore independently here, except within the premises of the port area where a bubble is set up. Because we have missed two other ports we chose the Port Antonio Scenic Tour. Here we visited photo opportunities at Folly's Point Lighthouse and the Blue Lagoon. The final stop was to Frenchmen's Cove Beach where the water was warm and the waves quite high. I would not want to be here if there was any form of wind. But it was alot of fun to swim in the waves
On the way back to the ship, Janice asked our quide what percentage of the total population is vaccinated for Covid. His reply was only 25% although anyone working in the tourism industry is required to be fully vaccinated.
Tomorrow is a sea day.
