Atlantis is in the V&A marina in Cape Town after another eventful sail between Simon's Town and Cape Town.
The rounding of the Cape of Good Hoop went well...a bit of waves and current but no winds above 20kts. Due to a limited weather window we had to motor most of the way to keep our speed up and avoid coming into the predicted headwind of 15kts.
At 10nm South of Houtbay Atlantis went through illegal fisherman's nets at more than 3nm of the shore. Disaster again, the starboard engine stopped and rudder was blocked. This time I used the phone rather than the VHF radio, and Eileen (a former crew member on Atlantis) helped us out by contacting the NSRI for assistance. Thanks for saving us!!
Another rescue action was organised and this time the rescue team of Houtbay came with a diver who could cut the lines and got both propellor and rudder free. An action executed at sea by a brave NSRI team member. We travelled more than 5nm dragging a crayfish trap on a 70m line with one engine on almost full throttle at 3,5kts. It seems that Atlantis does anything to get the NSRI people on board...I believe she loves them. I hope the naughty girl won't play tricks in the middle of the ocean.
We managed to continue our voyage safely into the waterfront marina where we found a nice mooring place between the rich and famous. Atlantis was so proud to be between the "big boats", but she didn't show it when she moored next to a 50ft American catamaran.
Mary, a new crew member joined for the crossing. She is a skipper and nurse... Good combination when someone get injured. We expect to leave in 2 days.... Will keep you posted.
