Today we went over to Hong Kong. We walked along the Avenue of Stars on the waterfront; a bit like the Hollywood walk of fame with stars and handprints along the path, except you didn't know who anyone was apart from Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan! There was a big Bruce Lee statue as well. It was very pleasant! Nice to see the impressive skyscraper skyline of where we are staying as well.
We then wandered up towards some markets, stopping to have a nosy in the famous Chungking Mansions previously mentioned. It wasn't as scary as I imagined, but it had a lot of dodgy people hanging around. The bottom floor was full of stalls and shops. Ben got offered different types of drugs twice which I think sums the place up! Everyone here is also obsessed with trying to flog you fake Rolex's or designer handbags. It's literally every other person handing you their card. As Ben pointed out, he's perfectly happy with his £7.99 Casio!
The markets were the usual fun. Live toads in bags, sea snakes etc. We saw one big fish commit suicide jumping out of it's tank behind the containers without anyone noticing. I think it knew what it wanted. We did fall in love with a small chess set. The figures were old kinda rustic figures I would describe them as. They were strapped into a small wooden box which opens up to form the chess board. We were offered it for £11.50 and with much haggling and the woman hating us, we got it finally for £5.50 and were very pleased with ourselves! It is beautiful. We haven't touched on the situation yet, but I'm hoping Ben will carry it!!! I think we'll need to post it back soon though.
We managed to watch the football in an Irish bar, very original!! Obviously it was good. Then we caught the star ferry back to the island. It was amazing. The skyline was spectacular too. We want to do it again tomorrow and it's so cheap to ride it compared to the metro.
We've not much planned for Easter Sunday tomorrow. It's a shame we won't be having the big family meal and we overspent today so it'll definitely be a quiet one. I want to go and find Ben an egg though!
P.s. It rained today-the first time since we've been away! It was still hot & humid though. Apparently 76% humid so I dread to think what yesterday was!
P.p.s. I am v excited as my friend Hollie has had to change her plans and she will be hitting Bangkok on Tuesday the day after us:) Hollie did the same course as me but was a year below, we've kept in touch and had quite a few reunions so it'll be so good to see her as it has been a while. She set off travelling with her boyfriend just before Christmas. She injured her ankle whilst in Cambodia and was in plaster for 6 weeks so is recovering now, although she hasn't said how she did it so I'm sure it's an interesting story! Really looking forward to seeing her.
