Hello again,
This is part 2 of 3 of the blog, and will tell you about our week in Bali, well 5 days that flew by. We arrived in Bali about 7pm after travelling all day from Kalimantan in Borneo. We got an over priced taxi from the airport 10 minutes to the seaside town of Kuta which is where all the tourists are and the surfers. walking around in the dark is not fun when you dont know where you're going but luckily a guy saw our bags and showed us to his guest house which he gave us cheaper rates for. It was pretty nice for 3pound! had really comfy bed that you could just sink into and the shower was cold but hey who needs extra heat out here! In the morning we had our complementary breakfast (egg jaffles, which are like egg toasties but better!) and headed to the beach. All the streets for as far as you could care to walk in every direction were full of tshirt stalls or jewellery or other ornaments and the owners saying "yes! looking!'
The beach wa sabout 10 minutes walk down the road, which was called 'poppies gang 1'. When you get to the beach, which is miles long, lined with trees in the back for shade if you want it, and hundreds of hawkers selling everything from surf boards and body boards for the day to pineapple slices and sarongs. It was a bit annoying at first as they will come up to you one after the other asking you to buy things, but you soon get the hang of saying no in the right way or pretending you're asleep! its kinda nice when you do want something because it wont be long before it arrives in your lap, and you can barter for obscenely low prices.
The surf was pretty good and we rented body boards for the day but didnt bother getting surfing lessons. We then found it was much more fun just jumping in and out of the waves and diving under them, plus it was free. There were countless places to have lunch and dinner too and was really good food at rock bottom prices. We were spending 12000 rupiah on a large beer and 2 glasses, thats about 70p. Most of the food was no more than 1.50 so we lived like kings for a week and enjoyed the sun and sand that we have been craving for months! We then watched the sunset every night with a beer on the beach, and watched a dvd in one of the nearby pubs.
Theres not much else to say about Kuta really thats all we did, just lounged around and loved it! and enjoyed the fact that there were no bugs anywhere!
