Lynne likes an early start 8 am each day. Given the sun is up by 5.15 am this is an easy target only moderated by the hotel's ability to provide a timely breakfast. We set off north to Sedona now an artists colony. However the locals know it as the Red town and it lives up to its name. This town provided the location for western moviemakers during and after the 1930's depression. A small museum in the town celebrates this history.
After driving through the Oak Creek Canyon we arrived at the Grand Canyon National Park about 2.30 pm. On arrival about 20 of us took the local helicopter 45 minute tour over the East Rim of the canyon itself. We enjoyed the flight immensely, of course these days we cannot fly below the rim nor even along the length of the canyon.
Our accomodation for the evening was the Kachina Lodge right at the Grand Canyon south rim . We only had to walk ut of our door to enjoy the natural beauty. Unfortunately the weather was cold and cloudy.
