We left the National Park by driving along the East Rim the part we had flown over, stopping for a short photo shoot at the tower. After that we drove on to the Historic Cameron Trading Post for our mid morning break. Then through the Painted Desert bordering the Navajo lands to Gouldings Trading Post, right beside Monument Valley for lunch. We tried the Navajo tortilla based on the famous Navajo Fry Bread. This was the site for the John Wayne western Stagecoach. The house made for the movie in 1937 still stands. After lunch we were taken by a navajo guide on a "boy truck" ride through Monument Valley, which is indescribable. During our visit we had a dust storm and a short rain event. Our Navajo guide said we were leaving with a taste of the place. They even have a site named John Ford's ledge because he liked to make westerns there. We arrived at Lake Powell late in time for dinner and our room definitely had a lake view.
