We started our travels in Melbourne with a massive queue for the bathroom. I was savvy enough to get up early to avoid the queue only to be beaten by our Irish roommate who is called Bernie.
Once we all had our turn in the bathroom, we went to Coles for some food supplies for the week where we caught Craig stalking us twice (Ok, we bumped into him randomly but it was a bit of a coincidence though) We then caught a tram to the city. Melbourne's public transport system is mainly run by trams with occasional buses. There was no tube or trains unless you want to go outside of Melbourne.
In a nutshell, it is certainly more easier and enjoyable to use than Sydney's public transport system! We went to the information centre to buff up on our knowledge of Melbourne before visiting Federation Square. There was a collection of innovative buildings around the square. They were very well designed and attract loads of visitors every year. We popped inside one of them to avoid rain and found a display on the history of films which were great to pass the time.
Once the rain had dried up, we ventured outside to went to shops to hunt for a new camera for Dominic because he committed a cardinal sin for any travellers and lost his camera. Eventually we came across a street filled with camera shops. Shops in Melbourne are just like buses, there isn't a bus for ages then two came along at the same time!
We then went to Crown Entertainment complex. It was a peculiar experience because according to the leaflet that Sara found, it had an arcades, movie complex, casino and a shopping mall but when we wandered in, there were upper class people in black tie suits or cocktail dresses everywhere and the further we wandered, we brushed shoulders with upper class people more, we saw designer labels shops and fancy restaurants. The matter came to head when we accidently walked in a cocktail party. The gulf between well-suited locals and a band of ragged travellers were rather embarrassing for us!
But, during our ill-fated exploring, we saw few ordinary people walking around which confused us even more but we discovered the complex is split in two buildings with an interconnecting flyover in the middle. Once we crossed the flyover, we were back in our universe and we had a quick dinner before heading into the arcade. Overall, the complex is a fantasising glimpse into a social divide between the rich and the poor by segregating them. It is almost as we were back in the 50s with the racial segregation of two races.

Margaret Worrell Fascinating account Asher. Crown Entertainment is weird - do you think it might have been an advertising stunt and the upper class people were all actors? Thought the Aussies were classless, but hey! this is Melbourne! Carry on having a good time and keep the blogs going, I love them. Gran x
