We arrived at the airport just before 3am, I was eager to proceed to check in because I realised we were be first customers to check in at Melbourne Airport today. There were few competitors for this distinction from the fellow passengers but luckily we timed our run to perfection and managed to get in the front of the queue in the time!
We got in the airplane and arrived in Auckland at 11am the local time. We quickly dashed to the domestic terminal for our changeover to Christchurch scheduled for 4.30pm. To our horror, it was delayed by six hours to the departure time of 10.30pm. The delay virus quickly spreaded all over the departure board with almost all of the flights delayed. We later learnt it were due to the torrid weather conditions because some areas had 50cm of snow which is weird as apparently it hadn't snowed in Auckland for 30 years until our arrival!
We hung around and Ashley repeated his amazing ability to fell asleep at drop of a hat and spent most of the day in hibernation. Rest of us weren't so lucky and we were further dismayed to see our flight delayed by additional two hours. The final blow came shortly as the delay extended by one hour and 15 minutes. In the fairness, we did get two free vouchers for the food in the airport which stopped us from going hungry.
As I type this (Thanks to the free internet, I have caught up all of my blogs) I still haven't boarded the flight yet and only slept a grand total of one hour. We are also contemplating sleeping rough in Christchurch airport when we arrive because we would arrive about 3am and we don't want to blow our money on a hostel for a few hours of sleep....That is hardcore travelling for you folks!
I think this fact sum our torrid day is that...We were first to board a plane in Melbourne at start of the day and we will be amongst the last passengers to leave on the last plane out of Auckland on the same day!
