We had decided on a short trip from Cann River to Orbost while we waited for the last of the Easter rush to move out of Lakes Entrance. We met a couple at Orbost that had just come from there that day and they said the amount of people there was unreal! So we decided to extend our stay at Orbost. It was a good little park and we had thought it was time to kick back and just have a day about the park and doing the catch up on general housekeeping and cooking as we had done a few day trips while in Cann River.

Information plaques line all the walking paths throughout Orbost which I think is a great way to see and read about the town. The Slab Hut (information centre) was an original dwelling built in 1872. It was donated to the Orbost Historical Society. In 1970 the removal and storage of the dwelling took place having all the timber numbered and photographed it was then rebuilt in 1984 in the main street of Orbost. The slab hut has remained open since 1987. There are resident geese that stroll through the cottage garden that surrounds the Slab hut. There is a park nearby with yep you guessed a playground, mosaic path, walking tracks, a flood marker, some art pieces and an exercise station, let's just say there is something for everyone.

While in Orbost we made a trip to Marlo. It is a small seaside town only 14km from Orbost. It is very well known for its fishing and it is here that the famous Snowy River meets the sea. If you get time or should I say if you are there at the right time you can get aboard a piece of living history and cruise the Snowy River, on a paddle steamer called "Curlip". Our timing wasn't quite right so we missed out on this. The clouds had started rolling in by this stage so our fish and chips on the beach had to been canned just as it started to rain.

When we left Orbost for this big adventure the weather was magic, that good in fact we did pack togs just in case. We were told by the park owners at Orbost to go for a drive out to Cape Conran (only 18km from Marlo) to do the East Coast Boardwalk. Apparently this is supposed to be a great walk but the weather had turned from bad to worse it was now raining and windy and the kids were getting hungry so we got out of the car took a photo and then headed back to Orbost. It is a shame that the weather holds you back and you miss out on things but hey that's life. It was still good to get out and go for a drive to check out these places.

Well we had a good time at Orbost but now we are headed to the very popular town of Lakes Entrance.
