We got off the plane in Athens and rushed to the ferry port Rafina (about an hours bus away). We rushed so much that we didn't realize we actually had about 5 hours till the ferry and Rafina port isn't much more than the equivalent of a bus stop. We didn't let this get us down though because the weather was stunning, the sea was blue and we were in Greece gosh darnit! So we found headed to one of the restaurants to grab a Greek meal (we only went to the restaurant that didn't have an annoying spruker). We ordered Greek salad and grilled calamari which were both excellent and so fresh!
We boarded our ferry and it was huge which was good because neither of us got sea sick on the 2 hour ferry ride. Arriving in Mykonos it was a bit surreal . The island didn't look huge, the water all around was blue and the white washed Cycalade style houses dotted the landscape and clustered at the town.
We were staying in a place called Sofias Village and the wonderful old Greek Sofia herself met us at the port! Driving up to the room she asked "your well?" we nodded and then she switched on the radio - blasting pop music all the windy way up to our room.
We couldn't believe our room was one of those white square buildings! The room was sparse but comfortable. But right outside our room on one side was a stunning pool and bar and the other side a porch with an even more stunning view out over the Agean Sea. It was heaven! We knew our mates were staying in town somewhere so we headed on down to the main town and found everyone lounging in a tiny room right next to the bus station (Everyone being Jessie, Bec, Talia, Leo, Edan, Tom, Marc, Jeremy and Maddie). It was a grand reunion not having seen some of them for 6 months!
Across the next 4 days we spent alot of time hanging out and seeing the amazing little town as well as the famous windmills. We went our to some of the famous clubs which are huge and have some amazing international dj's (Afrojack and Martin Solveig). We also ate many gyros (a small, filling snack with tzatziki, chicken, chips, lettuce and tomato).
We left Mykonos early to follow most of our friends to Ios (another Greek island about 3 hours ferry ride away).
