We arrived in Ios expecting it to be the same as Mykonos and to a certain level they were the same. Same little square houses. Same blue ocean. But as we were carted up the steep hill to our hostel Francesco's we did notice a few differences. It was much smaller, quieter and the population appeared to be predominantly Australian with a small Greek minority.
The hostel again was great with an awesome view over the town and a cool bar were they served welcome shots every night. We were staying with the same group of people but this time we were all in the same hostel.
The night scene in Ios was a little different to Mykonos in that instead of one giant club there were about 30 small club/pub/bars all along a 100 meter strip. So every night you would just wander in and out of the different bars until you found one that you liked. This was great fun. We went down and played pool at the pub (were we watched Cadell Evans win the Tour de France) during the day or went to the beach which was a bit of a party beach with music and great sand. We enjoyed many late night crepes from the 'Creperie' (Banana and Nutella).
We went to the famed Far Out Beach Club (well they said it was famous but I'd never heard of it). It was nestled on the far end of the beach an had multiple pools a DJ etc etc. All the right stuff for a pretty awesome day party. Coming back from that at 10pm and then going out that night an crashing at about 6 the next morning as the sun rose pretty much ruled out the next day for anything but lounging by the pool.
The last night most of our friends had left (new ones had arrived but we didn't go out on account of our early morning ferry - by this point 11am was considered an early morning!) so we wanted to go out and try some wholesome Greek food. We inquired with the lady at the reception of the hostel (Australian of course) and she recommended The Nest which was tucked up a tiny little alley in the town. It was a small family run restaurant and served traditional Greek food. I got Mossaka (a mince meat lasagna with eggplant in a clay pot) and Shaun got Greek meatballs with greenbeans and a tomato sauce with rice. Both were delicious and enormous (neither of us could finish).
So we were off to Santorini After 5 great days and the last with alot of our friends for the next month until we see them in Spain later in August.
