Anna's Big Trip
Just got into Florence today. The last few days have just flown by. Rome is crazy! So many stories, sensory overload. The first day I went to see Vatican City. I GOT TO SEE THE SISTINE CHAPEL!!! It is sooo beautiful. The Vatican Museum is full of hundreds of priceless masterpieces...Michelangelo, Bernini, Rafael...after a while its overwhelming. I feel like I need to take an art history class, religious studies class and a roman history class before I come back to Rome. St. Peter's Basilica was also breathtaking. Both the plaza and the inside. The only downside was that a 60-year old man befriended me, gave me a tour of the Basilica and then proceeded to hit on me! I was in shock! He was after one thing the whole time, which freaked me out when I figured it out. I immediately told him he had to leave and I wasn't that type of girl. I then went to the Colosseum, Roman Forum area, but everything was closing already. That night Simon and his friend invited me to a PubCrawl, which is basically bar hoping. I met a lot of young Americans and it was fun at first, but the last club we were in scared me a little and I had to get out. All I wanted to do was dance, but Italian men are very very pushy. Just walking from one end of the club to the other I felt molested. So I got on a bus back to the hostel, but then a bunch of drunk guys got on and asked me if I wanted to go back to a hotel with them! I said no and to leave me alone. The bus driver even yelled at them to leave me alone, which was very nice of him. He watched out for me and made sure I got to the right stop. But when I was walking back to the hostel from the bus stop a guy started following me. He said that he was just protecting me, since he has a sister studying abroad too. But he started acting up to so finally I had to tell him to leave me alone too. He kept on saying that he was just a friend and saw me as a sister, so finally I told him that if he really saw me as a sister then he would let me go. Which he finally did. But from now on, I have a ring on left ring finger, am married, and tagging along with my husband who is on business and am definitely not going out anymore. Its helped a little...But at the same time I've some really nice people that go out of their way to help. Anyways, the next day I got to see the Colosseum, Roman Forum (ruins), Vittorio Monument, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. All very beautiful or impressive. After a long day I ended up treating myself to a really nice (and expensive) dinner in Piazza Navona. The food in Italy is so simple, but so good. Just really good ingredients. I'm starting to become a bakery and cafe addict. And the Gelato! Oh, I'm definitely not going to be losing any weight here=) The next day I left Rome to go to Florence, stopping at Piza on the way. The leaning tower of Piza and the Field of Miracles are very cool, but thats all there is in Piza. It is really funny to see the leaning tower, just not your normal everyday sight.=) I only spent an hour in Piza and was off to Florence. Tomorrow I will go see the museums (have to see David), and the Duomo. Then Monday I will take a day trip down to Siena and rent a bike! I'm really excited about biking in the Tuscany area, its supposed to be so beautiful. Then up to Venice! I've updated all of the photo albums with lots an lots of new pictures, since I've finally found a computer that lets me look at what photos I'm actually loading (up to now its been random). So make sure to take another look! Ciao!
