April's Travels
Highlight of Mexico.
Today we got up early and did our first tour. It has to be a highlight of the trip so far because it was just so cool!!
We arrived at Palenque which is the town where mayan ruins have been discovered in the heart of the jungle which runs all the way to Guatemala!!
We arrived at the jungle in shorts and flip flops (mistake one). Having seen everyone in hiking gear we skipped off to the toilets to change into longer trousers only to be greeted (and i mean it might as well have shook our hands) by the biggest spider i`ve ever seen in real life. It was just there, under the sink in the loos fidgeting!! Oh come on. So we got changed in the door way so we didn`t have to go in.
We didn`t have trainers but went on with the tour anyway. Our guide decided to take us the back route through the jungle so we walked for an hour along a pretty narrow path, it was really fab. It was all wet and sticky, like jungles are, we saw a termites nest and got bitten by lots of little flies!! Always fun, you gotta love em.
When we got to the ruins we walked out into the open and they looked absolutely amazing. I have lots of pics for you to see. Sorry if there is overkill but i had to take lots!! We climbed up a few and got told lots of stories about the mayan people so i loved that.
After the ruins we drove to the first of two waterfalls we saw. The first one called Miso hal was used to film `Predator`don`t know if you`ve seen it. The jungle we walked through was also used in the film. The waterfall was so beautiful, we walked behind it and took lots of piccys. Bit strange though because you could swim there but just earlier someone had drowned so it was all a bit bizarre. We didn`t take a dip!!
The second waterfall was totally different but still really cool!! We spent quite a long time there, mooched arround and took pictures. I think it was a bit of a holiday resort for the mexicans!!!
That night back to our first rather basic accomodation we had a few little beasties of our own, i`m used to them now of course tee hee hee!!
