April's Travels
Hi one and all,
After leaving Belize about a week ago now we arrived in La Ceiba in Honduras. From here we were going to go on a manatee tour but when we went to book it, it didn't actually sound too good so we caught a ferry across to the Bay islands instead. The island we went to was called Utila. The bay islands are a cluster of carribean islands off the coast of Honduras. Very beautiful. It was a bit like rubbing salt in a wound as we wanted to learn to dive on Utila but didn't have enough time as the first boat there was cancelled due to the bad weather. Going to visit was still good though. Honduras is dirt cheap so we had a really nice hotel on the island, with a pool and a bar along with a pack of sun loving lizards in the grounds. Like a mini jurassic park.
We went out snorkelling on one of the days, lots more fish than last time, tiger ones, zebra printed ones, a parrot fish and little electric blue ones. It was really cool because as the sun shone through the water it glistened on the fish and put them in and out of focus, very pretty. We were really careful not to burn ourselves like we did last time. Becky did better than me, after putting all the sun tan lotion on in the morning i cleaned my teeth and wiped the toothpaste off my face, along with the sun cream obviously. Therefore i burnt my lips of all things. Felt like i had a couple of slugs on my lips for two days, Angelina Jolie eat your heart out!!
On the friday we caught the ferry back to the mainland and went straight to jungle lodge which is a big activities centre in a national park. Honduras is beautiful, lots of jungle and mountains. We were there to go zip lining. There were seven cables high above the jungle canopy. We got harnessed up, had a helmet and a pair of gloves and off we went hiking to the first one. We walked through the jungle that was full of deadly spiders, tarantulas and the very deadly snake the fer de lance. The guide said he would catch the snake if it appeared as he had done a couple of times before (barefoot guide, been in the jungle for 11 years, you know the type) so i was really looking forward to it but no snakes and no spiders!! Plenty of time for them in oz i guess. Zip lining was loads of fun, have to do that again. You get the hang of it after a while and go all the way feet first as opposed to crashing along the wire spinning round. The highlight was the fastest one which has a mattress tied around the tree at the end. I managed to stop myself before hitting the mattress, was looking forward to becky's landing but she used her hands as a brake far too well, rubbish!!
The next day we left for El Salvador which is where we are now. Just here overnight which is a shame because the city looks pretty cool so would have been good to have a look around but we fly out tomorrow morning. Hollywood here i come baby, look at for me on those billboard ads!!
Much love.
