Today is our first day in Melbourne and our first real experience of the Space hotel unisex bathrooms. Now these are individual cubicles and cleaned regularly, yet somehow people manage to reverse the cleaning crews efforts in less than 2 minutes. Ant is rather pleased I am experiencing horrible bathrooms as he has had to deal with this since we arrived in Australia, it would appear men are the main culprits for the bathroom state. Girls are not innocent though they malt everywhere and I am pretty sure the brown fake tan hand print on the shower wall was from a female! So a few weeks in and still enjoying the shared bathrooms, thankfully we can afford a private room at least.
Before exploring our new home we booked a tour to Phillip island for the following day, then we headed off to Victoria market. One of the largest markets I have ever seen selling: fruit, veg, meat, fish, cheese, deli items, sweets, clothes, souvniers, and much more! It was like walking around 3-4 giant warehouses full of stalls. We spent hours wandering round and enjoyed a lamb wrap and giant chocolate chip muffin from one of the stalls for lunch. The market was open until 6 but around 4 the stalls began closing and we unfortunately witnessed the fish and meat guts being washed away in the walk ways. That was the sign to head off before we lost our appetites, so we picked up lamb and rosemary sausages and veg from the stalls for dinner.
On returning to the hostel we decided to relax in the hottub on the roof and admire the city skyline. A pieceful way to end the day before fighting for space in the busy kitchen to cook our market meal. Shared kitchens allow us to look at what everyone else is having, very rarely do I see anything inspirational though. You witness people pouring water in to a pan with HOT oil and panicing when they smoke the whole kitchen out, then others that choose safer cooking options like toast with plastic cheese or just plain trusty cereal for dinner.

Deborah Clements Don't like the sound of bathroom experiences or peoples cooking choices! Like the sound of the market - pre fish guts!
