Luckily we had a relatively empty bus so we spread across 2 seats each for our uncomfortable sleep. Awakening in Surfers Paradise we decided the apartment we had booked (no hostels this time) was within 'walking distance', forgetting the weight of our rucksacks. We crossed a bridge on to Chevron island and found below us hundreds of small jellyfish in the water. In the warm sun they looked bright blue in the dark murky water, but we didn't stand around long to look with our rucksacks on.
Arriving at the holiday apartments at 11am we hoped we could check in early but unfortunately not, so the kind lady at reception stored our bags. Just as we were leaving she reminded us that Queensland does not do daylight savings (something about the cows getting confused) and the time was actually 10am. That would explain all those people we thought were checking out late! We headed out to a nearby cafe for a drink and a piece of cake to kill some time, but feeling exhausted from the night bus we headed back to the apartments planning to lounge by the pool. On arriving (this time at 11am) there was in fact a room ready for us, so we headed straight up for a much needed nap!
Feeling much more refreshed we headed out in to town to see the beautiful beaches and grab a snack. Then it was off to the supermarket to stock the fridge, where we came across fish fingers! Having now got a freezer we planned a fish finger sandwich and chips for a lazy nights dinner.
