Today marked our last few hours in Hong Kong before we flew on to China. After checking out at noon we thankfully had our airport shuttle upgraded to a chauffeur. So we did not have to suffer the interesting driving and petrol fumes, from a vehicle I can only describe as an asian vw camper van with decor you are likely to find in your local chinese resturant.
Hong Kong was an interesting experience and was very eye opening to a diffrent culture. The people were always friendly if a little impolite by western standards (still wondering if there is a cantanese word for excuse me) and were always helpful.
As a review to sum up our experience Laura and I have listed our pros and cons:
Pros
-Entertaining ourselves watching elderly ladies drag empty boxes through the streets of Hong Kong. There were several of these and we have no idea why. Even more entertaining was the man who washed his boxes before flat packing them.
-"Barry" the concierge who walked to the end of the street, stood in the middle of a busy road to hail a cab for us
-The views of the peak
-The endless t-shirts with western slang, some with the odd "chineglish" mistake
-Haggling with the people of ladies market
-The endless 7/11 stores
Cons
-The goldfish market with it's near crultey to animals
-The strange smell of Hong Kong
-The hard bed
-The humidity!

Deborah Clements I like your summary at the end of your stay! More pros than cons - that has to be good! x
