We arrived in Hat-Yai, Thailand at 10:30am after our long train journey. Thai time is 1 hour behind KL so we gained an hour there which is always good!
We had met an Irish group, 3 boys and a girl on the train and were chatting away to them and decided to go with them to Krabi rather than straight to Koh Phi Phi.
Unfortunately there was another long trip from Hat-Yai to Krabi, 6 hours by bus. Not good for the neck but it was air-conditioned so not that bad.
Thailand is beautiful! The scenery we saw from the bus was really pretty, the whole place just looks like paradise!
Once we arrived in Krabi, the bus depo was in the middle of nowhere and there was loads of people coming up to us asking where do we want to go, do we want a lift, do we want a tuk-tuk ARGH!! Thank god for that Irish lot because Anth and I hadn't done any research, didn't know what we were doing at all! Ha we must have looked like right planks, everyone else had numerous Lonely Planet books, maps were being pulled out from everywhere all we had was a bottle of Coke and a box of Pringles!
We just sort of tried to act like we knew what we were doing, I couldn't look at Anthony though because I would just burst out laughing knowing full well that he was thinking 'What the??' just like I was.
We met another lad (or should I say giant) at the bus depo. His name was Philippe, he was German and was 6 FOOT 8 INCHES!! I couldn't actually have told you what he looked like for about the first 2 hours until he sat down. All I know is that he had a very clean nose (must be either a picker or a blower!) so straight away I liked him! Honestly I felt like a Borrower next to him, I was basically talking to a German knee-cap for about 2 hours! Anth said he had snow on his head???
He was really lovely but a proper whopper! Haha like a German Ray Mears with the longest toes ever! Handy person to have around though he had compasses and all sorts so he got us to a really nice hostel in Krabi in no time!
The plan was to stay in Krabi for one night then head to Phi Phi tomorrow. After everyone had settled in their rooms at the hostel, we all decided to go for a couple of drinks and something to eat.
Thai food is lovely!! Yey I actually like something - I really thought I was going to be the 'fussy' one in the group but I found something I liked and another person had to get pizza because he didn't like anything haha up yours loser!
It turned out to be a good night and Phil the German Giant is really nice. Anthony, after a few drinks, started the old "I know a bit of German myself Phil" so they recited the alphabet together and counted to 10 and I think Anth told him what is name was again, in German though.....
Koh Phi Phi tomorrow!
