India to Asia by Kay & Anthony
Day 85 -
Today we left Vang Vieng, ideally we had wanted to stay and have another day tubing on our own but as we were on a timescale (we wanted to be in Cambodia for Christmas) we had to leave.
Our bus left at midday in the direction of the capital city, Vientiane. We arrived there at about 6pm and had a nightmare trying to find accommodation as the S.E.A. (South East Asia) Games were playing.
Eventually we found a crummy little guesthouse to stay in for the night that was really smelly and dirty, gross.
After getting something to eat, we bumped into an American couple who we had sort of traveled through Laos with seeing them at various different places. We spent the rest of the evening in a bar having a few drinks.
They had been in Vientiane for two days and said there really was not much to do apart from watch the SEA Games which is free to do.
With this in mind we booked to leave tomorrow evening on the night bus to Pakse.
Day 86 -
After a rather agitated nights sleep we woke and set off to watch some of the games. The SEA Games are basically the same as the Olympics but in Asia so we had lots to choose from to watch.
We ended up watching the Beach Volleyball championship between Vietnam and Laos. The crowds were going absolutely bonkers for it!! All of the girls had pompoms and were screaming their faces off!
It was a really good game actually, even Anth and I were on the edge of our seats. We decided that we were Team Laos as that was the country we were in. They ended up losing though.
We headed back to the city centre after a couple of hours walking around the arena then got some food and waited for our bus.
Ooooh our bus was ace! Sleeper Bus! Anth and I had a double bed to share and it turned out to be one of the best sleeps we've had! Sleeper Buses are definitely the way forward!!
