India to Asia by Kay & Anthony
Day 91 -
We decided to leave Don Khong today and head to Don Det which is a bit further south but still part of Four Thousand Islands.
We needed to get a boat to this island and the journey lasted about 1 hour. Once we got there we found that the island was quite deserted. The only activities that you could have done were water activities which costed a fortune so we decided against it.
We ended up having a fab day though. We got a bungalow on the water's edge to stay in and another bottle of vodka ha!
We spent that afternoon lazing in our hammocks and drinking Laos vodka and coke. We managed to talk complete codsh*t all day and when we looked up it was dark and we didn't know where the day had gone!
We did manage to see a really nice sunset though, but it might have looked so beautiful because we had blurred vision...
There were already candles sticks around our bungalow so we lit them just so we could see and stayed in our hammocks for a while longer. At one point, Anth went into the bungalow to use the toilet and all I hear is "Oh my god!" I went in to find millions of giant ants covering the whole of the bungalow from floor to ceiling!!
We had mosquito spray with us so starting spraying the whole area then ran outside as there were just too many to deal with. From outside you could hear the ants falling from the ceiling and it sounded like hailstones dropping there were that many. Luckily we hadn't unpacked anything from our rucksacks although they were open and the insides were crawling with ants. We pulled them outside and got the landlord. That sobered us up anyway!
The landlord was really apologetic and put us in a new bungalow and he then started to try and extinguish the ants.
We went back about 10 minutes later to see how he was doing. He had manged to kill most of the ants and showed us where they had come from. There was a huge ant's nest in the bathroom wall and it was just our luck that it had decided to erupt tonight! God you should have seen the pile he swept up - RANK!
That sort of put an abrupt stop to our night. I was now really apprehensive about sleeping in our new bungalow (it wasn't as nice as the first one had been, ants aside) and reckon if I hadn't been half-cut, it would have taken me ages to fall asleep.
Tomorrow we leave for Pakse again unfortunately. We have to go back there as we are flying from Pakse airport to Cambodia in a couple of days.
