India to Asia by Kay & Anthony
Day 80 -
Our first impression of Luang Prabang, even though it was dark and quiet, was that is was brilliant. The place was lit up by fairy lights and had a real French feel to it.
As it was so quiet and there were many people on our boat trip, we had a bit of trouble of finding accommodation. Eventually we found somewhere not too far from the main road where all of the restaurants and bars were.
Once settled we went for a lovely meal along the boulevard and then headed to bed!
Day 81 -
I ended up suffering from hey fever last night (first time since traveling, doh!) as the room we had slept in was quite dusty. On this note we moved hotels and this time the room was really nice.
We didn't do much else today. Mainly spent our time on the internet as we had to sort out our Cambodian visa and flights to Siem Reap which took ages because of the slow internet connection.
Day 82 -
Today we decided to hire two bicycles and explore Luang Prubang. Turns out that the town wasn't much bigger than Ramsey and even though we were cycling for over two hours and thought we were lost we had actually just stayed right near the centre all the time and came out exactly where we had started!
It was really funny though on the bikes, thank god most of the area is flat is all I can say! We did probably see more than we would have on foot so that made us feel better.
At night we had a few drinks and a mooch around the local market which was like a buffet table, every few steps you made you came across the same thing as you had just seen before.
For the last couple of days we kept seeing the same beggar walking around. He only wore a pair of underpants but what made us laugh is that whilst he asks each passer by for money the hand he holds out to get the money is holding a big wad of cash! He must have had about 100quid we reckon - not really the best tactic to use!
