We left Koh Phangan on the 10th and had to be up and ready for 6am - Ouch!! We got a taxi to the harbour and then got on a boat at 7 which took 2 and a half hours. We had been on some good boats up till now, so when we got on to this one and it smelt like old cheese and feet, we had to have a little laugh! (the life jackets were so crusty, they would have saved themselves by walking off the boat before saving us) ha ha. We got the harbour and were expecting an hours wait till the coach to Krabi town, but managed to get put on one of the earlier ones. The coach was like a pimped out holiday van, with a tv, massive sound system and a kind of rounded coach which we got told to sit on. Thought we'd had a result, until they shoved two more guys on the seat with us, so ended up being a bit of a cramped journey for 2 hours, as one of the guys fell asleep legs akimbo, mouth wide open! But, luckily for us it was uncomfortable, coz we were looking out the window and Ant said "hey Wendy, check this out!". Low and behold, hanging onto the back of a pick up truck with it's hair blwoing in the G force wind, was a monkey! Class.....
We got to the bus stop in Krabi town, which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere and whilst standing around half asleep a guy came up to us and asked if we had a place to stay and where we were going?. He ran a guesthouse in Krabi town and offered us a free lift there in his truck - sound! We paid a few pounds extra and got A/c and a tv, bliss!!
We went for a little walk around the town to see what was about in the evening and was pretty much like any town, plenty of shops and places to eat and drink. The best part about Krabi town turned out to be the nightmarket, which was just stalls that sold Thai food but we were eating every night for 1 quid for the two of us! Happy days....
One of the guys we met in Koh Phangan was staying in Thailand for a bit longer than his mates but was on his tod, so I told him to get in contact with us and come down to Krabi. Ant had a message off him, saying he was coming down the next day so we gave him our number and he called us when he arrived and came and stayed in the same guesthouse. It was really nice having someone else to chat to and great for Ant to have some male company! lol..
On Saturday the 13th, we went on a trip called the 'James Bond Island Tour'. We were picked up early and had a nice 3 hour trip to the harbour and then got on a long boat around some little islands, one of which was where they filmed one of the James Bond movies (man with the golden gun). Some people had paid to do Kayaking but we had only done that a few days ago so didn't bother wasting the money. We saw a floating village where the fisherman and their families live and had lunch there, which was really good. We then got back on the coach and went to a water fall and then to Monkey cave island, where monkeys roam around like birds! Got some cool pictures and there were loads of tiny weeny baby monkeys, which I wanted, but wasn't allowed! Boooo....!
After that we had 2 and a half hours back on the coach and were pretty tired by the time we got back. Had a little afternoon nap - because we can - before meeting up with Chris in the evening for night market food and happy hour cocktails.
Poor Chris had stood on something in Koh Phangan and his foot was killing him. It looked like there might have been glass in it, so after leaving it for a week he decided to go to the clinic. They sent him to the hospital, who cut it open - ouch! Turns out there was nothing in it, but they had to put him on antibiotics and he wasn't allowed to go to the beach or drink - Gutted! So, that pretty much ended his holiday there and then and he decided to get an earlier flight home. Peter from our guesthouse helped him out in organising the flight and basically got someone to open the airport on the Sunday to sort out his flight. Result..
On Sunday we decided to go down to Ao Nang for the day, which is also in Krabi to see what it was like but turns out it was overpriced and there was nothing there that interested us enough to move there. So we decided to go to Phi Phi for a week for Ants birthday. The guy from the guesthouse organised the boat and a place for us to stay for cheaper than it should have been for Monday, so we would be back by the beach for Ants birthday on the 17th. The weather was pretty crap and raining on Monday, but perfect weather for travelling really! ;o)
