Well this is the first blog of the Sequel to 'Rod in Arabia & England'. As I am not a huge fan of Facebook (being a dog) and several friends and family back home don't have Facebook I decided the best way to keep in touch was to start another travel blog. Of course the destinations wont change so often and I will probably not write as frequently. And I have decided to make this through the eyes of Anouk. Rod and Pippa will contribute as regular journos and photo journalists and Baxter will also contribute as a roving reporter.
So my first story will be about London. Rod and I went for a walk a week or so ago along the Thames Path to Tower Bridge from London Bridge. Dogs are allowed on the trains here so Rod and Pippa often take me with them into the city and on holidays.
We caught the train from Queen's Road Peckham, our nearest station to London Bridge station. It is all of 9 mins which is how close we live to the centre of London. South Bermondsey is the only other station on the trip. We left the station and walked across London Bridge.
Many tourist think that 'London Bridge' and 'Tower Bridge' are the same thing. In fact London Bridge was sold once to and American for his theme park. It was shipped over brick by brick and he was apparently surprised at the finished result. Mind you Tower Bridge looks Gothic but is little more than few hundred years old.
Anyway Rod and I walked along the north side of the Thames towards Tower Bridge. I was able to stop at the Tower of London for a break while Rod had a coffee from Paul's. I was of course admired by the passers by because I sat so proudly next to Rod. We saw Traitor's Gate which is where Princess Elisabeth (later Queen Elisabeth I) was bought to the Tower when arrested by her sister Mary I for hearacy. It was the height of the Tudor Catholic versus Protestant debate.
After the Tower we crossed Tower Bridge and made our way along the south bank of the Thames to city hall. This is the bee hive looking building that Boris Johnson works from. Rod hooked me up to a statue of early man as if dogs should have also been in the picture. Really quite humiliating being walked by a statue.
From the city hall we continued past the Globe Theatre, Southwark Cathedral and the Tate Modern before making our way to Waterloo East and a train trip home. It was a good day.
Rod, Pippa and Baxter will also be contributing to this blog, but ultimately it will be through my eyes as the most important person in the Jordan family. After all my ticket to England cost more than double Pippa and Rod's so I must have come 1st class.
