Got up at 11, walked to Jonker Street to see if the room was available today and it was, so walked all the way back to Little India to check out but the old lady who works there is so nice we would feel bad checking out! So we will leave tomorrow when she is visiting Singapore!
At at a corner cafe in the town centre, ordered tea got coffee, the coffee was iced cappuccino and I find it far to milky now we have been in Asia so long!
Walked around the Jonker Street area, the shops here are so cute! I had to put Michael on a lead so he didn't spend all his money! The shops are all polished old wooden floors, wooden stands and baskets to keep things in with very quirky stuff for sale and more staff then customers!
I did buy a little elephant purse as keeping my money in my phone gets annoying sometimes!
The history of Melaka is that is has been owned by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British. The city centre is built by the dutch and Melaka is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Walked up to the old fort in the centre of town near the round about, it is remains found when the skyline tower was being built so they had to built is elsewhere.
Walked to the maritime museum which is on replica of the Portuguese cargo ship. It cost 5 ringgit to get in. It told us all about Melakas maritime history including the arrival of the British in the 18th century.
Walked to the shops opposite the ship but it was all tourist rubbish so we didn't buy anything! Who needs a baseball cap with a fan built into the lip of it to fan your face??? Not me!
Walked to the town centre, while we were in Kuala Lumpur everyone said we needed to try Cendol (pronounced chendol) as its a famous Melaka desert!! So we tried it ....
Cendol is a bowl filled with crunched ice, condensed milk, coconut milk, Melaka sugar, red jelly, red berries .... Kidney beans, sweet corn and other weird things! Cendol isn't the name of the dish, it's the main ingredient which is leaves, mixed with rice, salt and syrup and it's the long green things in the picture! Crazy! To be honest, it was actually nice!! It's famous here and everyone eats it! Bring on the sweet corn!!!
Walked to try and find the Peoples Museum as on the third floor it showcases how women beatify themselves throughout the world including, plugs in there lips and ears, neck braces to make there necks longer, small feet in china etc etc. I wonder if them have a 'the only way is Essex' gallery with fake tan, nails, hair and eyelashes! Maybe not.
Got lemon juice on the way home, I always have it but it's amazing, it's natural lemon juice and they put two small lemons in the bottom of your cup as well! Beaut.
Walked past a post card stand and thought after over 4 months of travelling we should send them! We are busy!! Got 6 post cards for 5 ringgit (£1) and got 6 stamps for 3 ringgit (60p), this tourist stuff is expensive! You people better keep these post cards forever or just until I come home so I can stick them in my book! Please and thank you!
Went back to our room and tried to write post cards, it's harder then writing blogs! We are so used to doing bullet points and then writing them in full we had to write bullet points on our phones then write them in full and THEN write them out! I don't think I have put pen to paper since school so they are illegible but it's the thought that counts!
Tried to sort my life out again, Michael has always said he would be home before Christmas but decided he is going home in October. October is when our money will run out, I wanted to stay and find a job in Bangkok but Michael said we have the whole world to travel so we should go home, save and then travel somewhere else in 6 months to a year. So I'm coming home around the end of October..... :(
Went for tea at about six in the big shopping mall on the main road. Walking around this 3 floored place took all night! There are so many shops and not all of them are designer like in Kuala Lumpur!!
For pick and mix, I think I have had I like 3 times in my life and Michael said its a must. It was ok! Ha Walked the million miles home through the heritage part, China Town, down the main road, through Little India and around the corner!
Consigned writing a few more post cards, wrote a blog and tried to go to sleep! Michael told me he thought this house was haunted though as he couldn't sleep last night and thought e saw a ghost! Safe to say I didn't sleep much! That bug stuck in the window hadn't died yet either so that was fluttering like there was no tomorrow!!!
