On our way to Masterton we stopped for an excellent roadside coffee and then at a Sunday Farmers Market in Hastings. Terrific produce available. Drove through more great scenery to Masterton where our motel room was very good. Following morning we stopped again for a great coffee in Greytown and then drove a short distance to a railway museum where there was the only surviving fell incline locomotive at Featherston. It was built by the Avonside Engine Co of Bristol in 1876 and ran over the Rimutaka Range. It had a centre rail which was gripped by gear wheels and up to six locomotives used to pull the train. We then took a turning off the main route 2 and drove a very windy, steep, narrow road up and down mountains (from Upper Hutt to Wulkanae). More great scenes. We stopped at a beach - Paekakariki - to watch some surfers and to eat our lunch and then continued into Wellington. Found Hotel and decided to get rid of car instead of following morning. Had a long walk around city and ate in Hotel. Took a ride on the cablecar up to Victoria University. Today have found the waterfront with lots of restaurants. About to go into a museum. Will put more pictures on later.
Seen buses going to Eastbourne, driven along Hastings Road, driven through Hastings and today saw a yacht called Bexhill.
Martin has noticed that the wheely bins here are exactly the same as ours !! - that was a good contract.
