Hoi An
We arrived in Hoi An by sleeper bus, there wasn't enough beds, jakes too tall to have his legs stretched out so he offered to lie on the floor. We were both fast asleep we got a wake up call at 5am. We get off the bus and realised we were in the middle of nowhere with just loads of locals with their motorbikes tying to get money. We decided to walk and eventually a taxi came by. As it was so early in the morning nothing was open and we couldn't check in until 2pm. We found a little local cafe where the men where all sat playing card games for money, they asked Jake to join in but we both knew they would end up taking all his money somehow. 6am came and we walked back to where we were staying.
We chose a Homestay where we stay in the family's home. The house was massive and our room was huge; the family were so lovely always offering food and drink and always helping us. They done all this without one word of English. For the 3 days we were they we were given push bikes to ride around the town. Hoi An is rated one of Asia's most beautiful city's and as we biked around we could understand why. The town is split in two by a river one side the bars and restaurants and the other the ancient buildings which were mostly tailors. Hoi An is famous for its tailoring every shop is either a tailors where you can get any type of suit or dress made or leather shops where you can get any bag, purse or sandals you want. With Jake having a interview when home he decided to have a suit made, after a hour of fussing around the materials he finally decided on a colour and it was off to be fitted. Once fitted the lady's told him to return the next day when it would be ready to try for size- it was fitted to perfection and looked very smart. Whilst Jake was doing this Anne Marie was in and out of every shop but only bought a bag and purse (thank god)! We spent the 3 days biking around the town seeing different sights and in the evenings in the bars with our friends playing card games.
The next stop was Hue, we rented motorbikes and gave our luggage to the company who took our bags by bus. We drove via the Hai Van Pas which is also known as the top gear route. The roads and views were incredible it was such a nice drive even if it did take hours on our little motorbikes. Anne-Marie was the tour guide with the map telling us to stop at all the main views and points; she done a very good job and we didn't get lost once! There isn't a lot to do in Hue but as its a weekend we will make good use of the sports bars.
